Candidates seeking election to Alabama’s open U.S. Senate and fifth congressional district seats have filed their year-end Federal Election Commission (FEC) reports.
The fourth quarter’s fundraising numbers are posted as candidates will later this month enter the three-month stretch to the primary election on May 24, 2022.
U.S. Senate
Former Business Council of Alabama CEO Katie Britt thus far has enjoyed a significant lead in the Senate race’s fundraising battle. Britt demonstrated her ability to garner financial support early on as she posted record-breaking quarterly fundraising numbers.
Last quarter, Britt hauled a total of $1,225,188 in cash receipts and recorded $480,746 in expenditures. Her ending cash-on-hand sits at $4,080,364.
While not posting as strong fundraising numbers as Britt throughout the duration of the race, recent polling indicates that U.S. Rep. Mo Brooks (R-Huntsville) could still enjoy frontrunner status in terms of electorate support.
Brooks raised $385,735 in cash contributions last quarter and spent $264,149. This took his campaign’s ending cash balance to $1,979,044.
U.S. Army veteran Mike Durant raised $166,153 last quarter and loaned his campaign $4,150,000. As previously reported by Yellowhammer News, Durant’s personal financial disclosure suggests that he holds the ability to self-finance his campaign should he opt to do so.
Additionally, Durant recorded $1,802,211 worth of expenditures, which brought his current cash balance to $2,513,941.
Fifth Congressional District
Casey Wardynski, former Trump-era assistant secretary of the Army for Manpower and Reserve Affairs, last quarter came out on top in the congressional race’s fundraising battle.
Wardynski posted $139,368 in cash receipts and loaned his campaign $9,000. The candidate spent $54,867 and presently holds $267,391 cash-on-hand.
While coming in second-place last quarter in fundraising, Madison County Commission chairman Dale Strong still holds the most cash-on-hand of any candidate in the field at $302,935. Strong recorded $95,276 in cash receipts and expended $84,883.
Former State Sen. Paul Sanford raked in $35,958 worth of cash contributions and loaned his campaign $1,250. The former North Alabama lawmaker recorded $2,518 in expenditures. His year-end cash-on-hand is $34,689.
Economic developer John Roberts hauled in $15,630 in cash receipts, loaned his campaign $10,000 and spent $31,040. His campaign’s ending cash balance sits at $79,609.
Huntsville City Schools teacher Andy Blalock raised $14,488 and recorded $10,145 in expenditures. His cash on hand is currently $7,691.
Harrison Wright did not meet the FEC’s $5,000 threshold required to file a report.
