The prevented planting crop deadline has been extended into July, a welcome relief for Alabama farmers who have alternately battled bouts of drought and excess rain this spring.
Farmers now have until each crop’s acreage reporting deadline to claim prevented planting through the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Farm Service Agency (FSA). July 15 is a major deadline for most crops.

Farmers must report prevented planting acres to retain eligibility for FSA program benefits.
The prevented planting reporting deadline is typically 15 calendar days after the final planting date for a crop as established by FSA and the Risk Management Agency (RMA). This extension does not change RMA crop insurance reporting deadline requirements and does not apply to crops covered by FSA’s Noninsured Crop Disaster Assistance Program (NAP).
Contact a local FSA office to report prevented planting acres and submit a spring crop acreage report. To find a local FSA office, visit farmers.gov/service-locator.
