PowerSouth Energy Cooperative, in preparation of future retirements and to better align its external affairs functions to serve its members, has announced that Taylor Williams will be promoted to director of external affairs.
Williams, a Montgomery native and resident, currently serves as PowerSouth’s manager of governmental affairs & economic development.
In the new role, he will be charged with overseeing the cooperative’s external affairs, including governmental affairs, economic development and community development initiatives.
In announcing the organizational change, PowerSouth president/CEO Gary Smith touted the promotion as a focus on the cooperative’s long-term plans.
“Taylor has done an outstanding job for us in dealing with governmental agencies, political issues, economic development opportunities, and community development,” said Smith. “PowerSouth has assembled a talented governmental affairs, economic development, and community development team which serves us well today and will serve us better in the future.”
Williams holds a bachelor’s degree in political science from the University of Alabama and earned his MBA from Auburn University at Montgomery.
Williams has served PowerSouth’s business in multiple operational capacities since joining the cooperative in 2009. His former positions include economic development representative, governmental & public affairs representative, and assistant to the executive VP & COO.
PowerSouth currently serves the wholesale needs of 16 electric cooperatives and four municipal electric systems. Altogether, it supplies over a million consumers in Alabama and Florida, with 39 of its 49 service counties being in the Yellowhammer State.
