Poll: Katie Britt takes slim lead over Mo Brooks in race for U.S. Senate

An internal poll conducted on behalf of Katie Britt’s U.S. Senate campaign shows that the first-time candidate has taken the lead over U.S. Rep. Mo Brooks (R-Huntsville) in the hotly-contested race for Alabama’s open Senate seat.

The poll, conducted by analytics firm TargetPoint, showed Britt with a slight 1% lead over the North Alabama congressman. The survey of likely Republican primary voters was conducted November 3-8 and held a 5.6% margin of error.

In an initial four-way ballot test, Britt garnered 31% of the vote, while Brooks came in as a close second at 30%. Military veteran and businessman Mike Durant was the first choice among 12% of respondents, while businesswoman Jessica Taylor sat at fourth place with 7%. Former U.S. Ambassador to Slovenia Lynda Blanchard was not included in the survey.

According to the polling memo, upon “hearing more about each of the frontrunning candidates,” Britt’s support jumped to 56% while Durant held steady at 12%, with Brooks dropping to 7%, and Taylor moving slightly down to 6%.

While Britt’s campaign has yet to spend its own money on television advertisement, entities have utilized resources promoting her candidacy. The polling suggests that the spending has been effective as Britt’s name identification surged to 78% among likely GOP primary voters.

The internal poll also displayed that she received the highest favorability rating at 59% while 7% viewed her as being unfavorable.

In a statement touting the new poll numbers, Britt proclaimed that voters were in search of “fresh blood” and desired to move away from what she referred to as “career politicians.”

“It is clear that the people of Alabama are ready for fresh blood in the Senate and are tired of ineffective career politicians like Joe Biden and my opponent who have made a living only serving themselves on the taxpayer dime,” declared Britt. “We are working hard each and every day, travelling to every corner of our great state to visit with Alabamians and listen to them. It is clear that our grassroots campaign and Alabama First message is resonating.”

She concluded, “People know that I’ll fight tirelessly every day to protect our Christian conservative values and preserve the American Dream for our children and our children’s children. We will continue to outwork the field through Election Day and beyond, so we can retake the Senate and the House in 2022 and the White House in 2024. Our country is worth fighting for, and now is the time to step up and win.”
