The Alabama Republican Party is set to undergo a change in a key leadership position. On Monday afternoon, the organization announced that its current Executive Director, Reed Phillips, will soon be stepping down to pursue other opportunities. Shannon Whitt, the Director of Finance and Special Events, will be taking over the role.
“It has been an incredible honor to serve the Alabama Republican Party and work alongside so many talented and dedicated individuals,” said Phillips. “I am grateful for the opportunities I’ve had to help grow our Party and for the friendships I’ve built with members of the State Executive Committee and grassroots leaders across the state. I look forward to seeing the Party continue to thrive in the years ahead.”
Phillips, who has been with the state party for nearly a decade, first served as Political Director before being promoted to Executive Director in 2020.
Under his leadership, the Republican Party increased its share of partisan elected offices across the state from 54% to over 73%, expanding into areas where the GOP had previously not been competitive.
“Reed Phillips has been an integral part of the Alabama Republican Party’s success,” Alabama Republican Party Chairman John Wahl said. “His strategic vision and tireless efforts have helped lead our Party to new heights, and his contributions will leave a lasting legacy. While we will miss his leadership and friendship, we are excited for him as he takes on this new opportunity. We wish him nothing but success in the future.”
“Shannon Whitt is an exceptional leader with a proven track record of success. Her abilities have empowered the Alabama Republican Party to compete and succeed on a national level within the Republican Party.”
“I have confidence that her vision, professionalism, and deep institutional knowledge will continue to propel the Party forward.”
Whitt expressed her gratitude to Whal for his “confidence and support.”
“It is an honor to step into this role and continue the work of growing our Party and promoting conservative values across Alabama,” she said. “I am excited to build on our successes and look forward to working with our incredible team to achieve even greater accomplishments.”
Whitt has made a name for herself in the party after organizing several record-breaking fundraising events including the recent ALGOP Summer and Winter Dinners that featured Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, President-elect Donald Trump, and co-chair of the RNC Lara Trump.
