The U.S. House Republican Policy Committee, chaired by Rep. Gary Palmer (AL-06), recently compiled a report regarding the historic humanitarian crisis at the United States’ southern border.
Department of Homeland Secretary Mayorkas, an appointee of President Joe Biden, recently admitted that the agency is “on pace to encounter more individuals at the southwest border than we have in the last 20 years.”
To see firsthand what the Biden administration’s open border and immigration policies have created, House Republicans the past two months led a number of delegation trips to the border. The Republican Policy Committee report — highlighted last week by House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) in his weekly briefing — was compiled with input from those delegations.
The report features testimonies and photos from members who visited the border. Additionally, it includes an open letter from McCarthy and Palmer to Vice President Kamala Harris, as well as a policy brief drafted by the Republican Policy Committee highlighting what can be done to end the crisis at the border.
“We are witnessing a serious crisis at our border. Facilities are overflowing, conditions are terrible, and children are being left abandoned at the border,” Palmer said in a statement. “All of this can be directly linked to this Administration’s easing of necessary border protections and open border rhetoric.”
“The Homeland Security Secretary recently confirmed that the agency is ‘on pace to encounter more individuals at the southwest border than we have in the last 20 years.’ Despite all of this, Vice President Harris has yet to make a visit to the border or comment at length on the crisis there, even though she was tapped by the President to lead efforts in addressing it a month ago,” he concluded. “It is time for this Administration to acknowledge the problem that it has created and to work with Congress to resolve it. The testimonies and policy solutions compiled by the Republican Policy Committee offer a commonsense place to start.”
