April 15 marked one year since 29-year-old Marquez Williams was killed in a hit-and-run while crossing North Memorial Parkway near Mastin Lake Road. With no suspects identified in the case, his family continues to grieve and search for answers.
To honor his memory, the Williams family organized a balloon release Tuesday at Valley View Memorial Gardens, where Marquez is laid to rest.
His loved ones described Marquez Williams as joyful, artistic, and deeply connected to his family. He shared a close bond with his younger brother and cousins, and his presence is still deeply missed. His mother, Lavonda Williams, said the last year has been filled with heartache and unanswered questions. She continues to reflect on the kind and loving spirit her son brought to every room he entered.
Despite the passage of time, the family says they have received little communication from investigators. The case remains open, and the Huntsville Police Department has not publicly identified any suspects or made arrests.
WAAY 31 has reported on the incident and followed the family’s journey over the past year. As the anniversary arrives, the community is reminded of the tragedy’s ongoing impact and the importance of stepping forward with any information that could help bring closure to those who loved Marquez most.
The Williams family is pleading with the person responsible to come forward and is asking anyone with information to contact Huntsville Police at 256-427-7001. They hope that someone, somewhere, knows something that could bring them closer to justice and peace.
