Moore cosponsors resolution to impeach Homeland secretary

U.S. Rep. Barry Moore (R-Enterprise) is cosponsoring a resolution in the House to impeach Secretary of Homeland Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas over the situation at the border.

Republicans in the House have been critical of Mayorkas and the Biden administration over the expiration of Title 42, which they believe will only worsen the current border crisis.

The resolution, led by U.S. Rep. Andy Biggs. (R-Ariz.), says “Secretary Mayorkas has failed to faithfully uphold his oath and has instead presided over a reckless abandonment of border security and immigration enforcement, at the expense of the Constitution and the security of the United States. Secretary Mayorkas has violated, and continues to violate, this oath by failing to maintain operational control of the border and releasing hundreds of thousands of illegal aliens into the interior of the United States.”

The resolution also says illegal immigration at the border has grown since Mayorkas first took his oath of office.

“As a result of Secretary Mayorkas’s actions and policies,” the resolution continues, “the border and the country are less secure today than when he began serving as Secretary. U.S. Customs and Border Protection apprehensions have increased each month since he became Secretary. Since February 2021, over 4.28 million aliens have been apprehended by U.S. Customs and Border Protection personnel at the southwest land border. This number does not include the increasing number of ‘got aways,’ illegal aliens who have evaded Border Patrol, of which there have been estimated to be between 1,000–2,400 per day. Under Secretary Mayorkas, over 300,000 unaccompanied alien children have been trafficked to the border, and at least 1,300 illegal aliens have died in attempted crossings.”

Moore said Mayorkas is harming America’s national security by not enforcing immigration laws and securing the border.

“Secretary Mayorkas is the architect of the policies that have led to 5 million illegal encounters at our border, 85,000 unaccompanied children being lost by our government, and thousands of pounds of deadly drugs flowing across,” Moore said. “There is no doubt he failed to uphold his oath to secure our country. Mayorkas has done more to help the cartels and child traffickers than he has to help the American people.

“It is clear he is intentionally violating the law and he must be impeached.”
