Montgomery VA Hospital on lockdown, active threat investigation underway

The Central Alabama Veterans Health Care System (CAVHCS) alerted the public to avoid the Montgomery VA Hospital on Perry Hill Road due to what was first indicated as an “active shooter investigation” just before 11 a.m. on Wednesday. Shortly after, a spokesperson clarified the situation as an “active threat investigation.”

Just before noon, a spokesperson for the City of Montgomery released a statement saying, “Chief of Staff Chip Hill has spokent with PD leadership and they have assured him of the following. No one on site was found with a gun. No one is injured. No one was shot. MPD is supporting their federal counterparts who are still following up on the initial reports.”

According to CAVHCS, all entrances to the hospital have been restricted.

“We are working closely with local authorities to ensure the safety of everyone on campus,” said Valerie Russell, Acting Director of CAVHCS. “We will provide updates as soon as more information becomes available.”
