Nearly 3,000 residents voted for the name of what the City of Mobile’s redesigned public transit system will be called, and “Second Line Transit” was the name that won out.

According to an announcement from the city, Second Line Transit received 1,575 votes, beating out the competing concept, MoGo, which received 1,258 votes.

The name, Second Line Transit, is an homage to the long-standing Mardi Gras traditions that Mobile prides itself on, as well as serving a commitment to community-centered public transit built around the citizens it serves.

“Second Line Transit celebrates Mobile’s unique history and brings a fresh energy to our public transit system,” Mobile Mayor Spiro Cheriogotis said. “Regardless of which brand you voted for, every Mobilian should be excited about Via’s efforts to modernize and reimagine public transit in Mobile.”

The transit system will continue to be called The Wave until July of 2026 and services will continue on The Wave as the redesign is completed.
