A member of President Trump’s cabinet was in Mobile this week, meeting with city officials and local business owners.
Ajit Pai, chairman of the Federal Communications Commission, stopped by the Port City on his way to Florida for a “Jobs & Digital Opportunity Tour.”
Pai stopped by the port, where he championed high-speed internet as vital to its success, and met with Uniti Fiber, a Mobile company that works in communications infrastructure.
Excellent insights from @UnitiFiber in Mobile, Alabama into building & monitoring networks. Saw hurricane-proof Network Operations Center. Also saw a small cell providing connectivity in key tunnel. Red tape/$/delay big issues, which @FCC is addressing to help make US #5Gready. pic.twitter.com/h05xoIOdKc

Pai also got a tour of the best beer spot in Mobile, Serda Brewing.
Loved meeting @serdabrewing founder John Serda! Heard how he started @serdascoffee, how the brewery overcame early obstacles, and how recent/upcoming Alabama reforms could limit government micromanagement of microbreweries. (Solid porter and hefeweizen, too!) pic.twitter.com/3YAWUF3Tf5

Great visit over a beer with FCC chairman @AjitPaiFCC at @serdabrewing in Mobile. Cabinet members are not supposed to be this cool! pic.twitter.com/gvrUnpGWXo
