Milo’s Hamburgers on Friday announced the launch of a sauce-selling campaign in an effort to support local Birmingham children’s literacy nonprofit, Better Basics.
The restaurant is selling bottles of three fan-favorite sauces – Milo’s signature sauce, Double-O sauce and honey mustard – for $5 across its 22-store location and its traveling Burger Bus. Milo’s announced that for every bottle purchased, it would donate $2 to Better Basics in support of the nonprofit’s mission to advance literacy among local youth.
Additionally, customers can send bottles to family and friends this holiday season by way of Milo’s partnership with Nourish Foods, a Birmingham-based food delivery service. Milo’s advised that each box will include select recipes which incorporate the restaurant’s famous sauce.
The campaign will launch November 15, 2021, and will extend through the year’s end or until supplies last.
Milo’s marketing director Mary Duncan Proctor outlined the company’s charitable mission to support Birmingham children.
“We are excited to offer a ‘little something extra’ to our loyal customers, near and far, throughout the holiday season,” said Proctor. “Through our sauce campaign, we chose to partner with Better Basics and support the incredible work they are doing within our local communities. Their mission perfectly aligns with the goals of Milo’s Little Something Extra Foundation – create opportunities for our youth by empowering them through education and leadership development.”
Better Basics, founded in 1993, stands as one of the only nonprofits dedicated to children’s literacy in Alabama. The organization offers literacy intervention and enrichment programs, which include Reading and Mathematics Intervention, Community-Wide Read-Alouds, Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library, Summer STEAMER, Book Nooks among others.
The nonprofit, which holds a Charity Navigator four-star rating, distributed over 31,000 books and served nearly 9,000 children during the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020.
Better Basics executive director Kristi Bradford asserted that the organization’s partnership would prove beneficial in meeting the literacy needs of local students.
“Last year, many young students suffered academically as schools operated in a completely virtual setting,” advised Bradford. “Through our partnership with Milo’s, we will be able to empower more children in the Greater Birmingham community by providing additional support to students who need it most.”
Milo’s Burger Bus will take a trip to Better Basics on Second Avenue South on Monday, December 6 from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., where the restaurant will sell lunch and sauce bottles to Birmingham patrons.
Milo’s sauce campaign will add to the company’s vast array of year-round school-based initiatives. Last holiday season, the restaurant partook in a similar sauce campaign which raised more than $25,000 to support No Kid Hungry.
