Members of Alabama’s GOP congressional delegation join letter blasting Mayorkas — ‘Your actions have willingly endangered American citizens’

In March, more than 221,000 migrants were apprehended at the southern border, which is the highest number yet recorded during President Joe Biden’s time in office, and many members of Congress are afraid it’s only going to increase after Biden lifts Title 42.

Monday, U.S. Reps. Robert Aderholt (R-Haleyville), Mo Brooks (R-Huntsville), Jerry Carl (R-Mobile) and Barry Moore (R-Enterprise) joined more than 50 Republicans in a letter sent to Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas, criticizing him for his handling of the crisis at the southern border.

In the letter, led by Border Security Caucus co-chair Brian Babin (R-Texas), and Republican Study Committee chair Jim Banks (R-Ind.), the members of Congress question Mayorkas’ “suitability” for office.

“Your actions have willingly endangered American citizens, undermined the rule of law and our nation’s sovereignty,” they say in the letter. “Your failure to secure the border and enforce the laws passed by Congress raise grave questions about your suitability for office.”

They also believe Mayorkas is breaking the law by failing to implement former President Donald Trump’s “Remain in Mexico” policy.

“You have been specifically instructed by the court to implement the protocol in good faith or take new agency action that complied with the law,” they write. “You have done neither.”

The members of Congress expressed concern that the crisis will soon be made worse by the rescinding of Title 42.

“The historic crisis at our southern border is set to worsen greatly due to the announced recession of Title 42,” they warn, “which will bring a tide of illegal immigrants across our southern border and overwhelm our already overworked and understaffed agents of the U.S. Border Patrol.”

The letter says it’s time for Mayorkas to start using his authority to send more resources to secure the border.

“We call on you to take all legal and necessary actions at your disposal,” they state, “of which there are many – to secure the southern border, rectify the dangerous policies this administration has put in motion over the past year, and bring your agency into compliance with the laws passed by the United States Congress.”

Brooks added with a statement on Twitter about the letter, saying, “I joined dozens of my GOP colleagues in writing to [Sec. Mayorkas] demanding to know why he is working so diligently to dismantle border security and welcome illegal aliens to America. His actions have endangered American citizens and undermined our nation’s sovereignty.”

Carl also posted a statement on Twitter, saying, “Secretary Mayorkas has failed to secure the border, and he has made America less safe. We will hold him accountable!”

In a tweet, Moore stated, “Secretary Mayorkas and President Biden have given the green light to every illegal immigrant that we don’t enforce our border laws. Their negligence has endangered every single American citizen. Proud to join my colleagues in sending a letter to Secretary Mayorkas.”
