University Beach, the mixed-use resort and entertainment destination planned for Northport, has announced that Marriott’s Autograph Collection will serve as the brand for its proposed luxury hotel.

The hotel, which will feature 144 rooms and suites, is slated to become the first luxury property in the Tuscaloosa area market. It is planned as the centerpiece of the 77-acre University Beach development, which also includes residences, retail, restaurants, entertainment venues, and an interactive waterpark.

According to the announcement, Aimbridge Hospitality, a global hotel management company, will operate the property. Harrison Construction, based in Northport, has been selected as the builder. Construction is scheduled to begin in the first quarter of 2026, with an opening targeted for fall 2027.

The hotel will include 132 king and queen rooms, 12 waterfront suites with private balconies, a resort-style infinity pool, private beach access, multiple dining and bar options, a fitness center, concierge service, and event spaces for weddings, conferences, and other gatherings.

An independent study by Hotel & Leisure Advisors projects the full University Beach development will create nearly 700 direct jobs in Northport and generate more than $250 million in city tax revenue, $210 million in county tax revenue, and over $530 million in state tax revenue over 30 years.

Developers state that University Beach is designed to bring “coastal charm to the heart of Alabama” on a site minutes from the University of Alabama, with open-air live music, waterfront dining, shopping, and entertainment once construction is complete.

While plans have been approved and announced, construction of University Beach has not yet begun, and the development remains in its planning and preparation phases.
