When Yellowhammer was first launched as my personal blog (before Yellowhammer News), one of the most popular weekly features was “Hate Mail of the Week.” I’d publish the hate mail submitted through the site’s contact page exactly as it was received. The only edits made were to remove expletives — this is a family show, after all.
Well, I’m bringing it back, but with a little different angle. Rather than it being all “hate mail,” I’d like to mix in some comments from Yellowhammer readers who want to weigh in on whatever topics are being discussed on the site. I’ll also answer some questions and post the correspondence if I think it’s something our readers would find interesting.
If you’d like to write in, you can do it through our contact page HERE. Include the name you’d like to be published and the town you live in. And keep it short, preferably a paragraph or less.
When I decided to do this this morning, I emailed the folks below to get the name and town they’d like to have published. Some responded, some didn’t, and some had submitted dummy email addresses so I couldn’t reach them. So that’s why some say “unknown.”
I hope more of you will email now that you know it may be published. I look forward to hearing from you.
Enjoy!
Gareth, Unknown — eat a (expletive) yellow bammer news! just kidding. good game. neh just kidding eat a (expletive)! but seriously. as bad as it hurts to lose again. i bet it’s going to hurt worst to see katherine webb in the oklahoma bleachers next year. then again maybe she’ll do another hardee’s commercial. then we all win.
Shelly H., Kimberly, Ala. — Mr. Sims, I find your rhetoric about environmental issues to be highly offensive. “Environmentalist” is not a bad word. I live in a small town being tortured by the strip mining of hundreds of acres. They are blasting near homes but more importantly they are blasting near wildlife that has to find somewhere else to live. My family and I could move if we had to but what are the deer to do? Have you considered that streams will be so contaminated that all the fish will die off? I apologize for being graphic but it would be like someone defecating in your kitchen sink and on your cooking dishes day after day and it never getting cleaned up. Solar and wind energy are the future of our state and I hope you will open your eyes and consider supporting them as strongly as you blindly support coal.
Kevin T., Springville, Ala. — Cliff, my senator is Jerry Fielding who introduced the Duck Dynasty bill. I’m embarrassed. It’s no wonder the rest of the country thinks we’re a bunch of idiots. I believe the same way the guys on Duck Dynasty believe. However, I don’t need a Democrat turned Republican legislator to waste my tax money trying to pass a meaningless resolution so he can score political points.
Helen R., Pinson, Ala. — I wished that I could vote for Senator Jerry Fielding after I saw his courageous bill supporting Phil Robertson. We need Christian men like Senator Fielding to stand up and be counted. I believe his bill will show us who is really on our side in the legislature and who is all talk.
Julian L., Unknown — Tell me if this sounds like what you do every day:
“The art of propaganda consists precisely in being able to awaken the imagination of the public through an appeal to their feelings, in finding the appropriate psychological form that will arrest the attention and appeal to the hearts of the national masses.”
It sounds exactly like what you have been doing to people in Alabama to get them to go after what you call “enviros.”
Do you know where those words came from? A little book called Mein Kampf by a young and ambitious German named Adolf Hitler.
Drew, Alabaster — Your picture at the top of the Yellowhammer email every day makes me wonder if you’ve ever walked in a house and been greeted by “Hi, I’m Chris Hansen with Dateline NBC.” Love the site though.
