Long-time Dothan news anchor Reginald Jones to retire after nearly 37 years in broadcast journalism

Since coming to the Dothan’s WTVY in December 1997, Reginald Jones had become a recognizable face among viewers of broadcast television in the Wiregrass and northern Florida.

After 37 years in broadcast journalism, which includes a stint in Huntsville at WAAY-TV and 24 years at Dothan’s WTVY, Jones is retiring.

He made the announcement on WTVY’s Thursday afternoon newscast.

“It does seem like kind of a surreal moment,” he said. “I mean, you kind of work all of your life, and you look forward to retirement. But now that it is here, you kind of go ‘hmm.’  But it is surreal, and I must say it has been a rewarding experience all through my career.”

Jones will anchor his last newscast on January 28, 2022, but will remain a part of WTVY in some capacity, according to the station’s website.
