CLEVELAND, Ohio — Over the years, fans of the basketball great LeBron James have shouted “Go Cavs” and “Let’s go, Heat,” but new evidence suggests they should probably start chanting “Roll Tide!”
After a crushing fifth loss in the NBA Finals, James and his Cleveland Cavaliers have a long offseason ahead to figure out how to possibly defeat the Golden State Warriors. Statistically, James had phenomenal series, as he averaged a triple double throught the NBA finals. But his fourth ring still eluded him, bringing his overall record in the finals to 3-5.
There is still hope for fans of the greatest player in the world. At only 32 years old, James likely has several good seasons left with his hometown team. Foor insurance, however, fans of “The King” might want to start rooting for a certain college football team from Tuscaloosa, Alabama.
SEC Network personality and former Birmingham radio host Paul Finebaum revealed an interesting pattern on his show this week. Since the 2010-2011 season, the championship fates of the Alabama Crimson Tide and whatever team Lebron James has played for have been completely intertwined.

In the 2011-2012 and 2012-2013 seasons, James won back-to-back titles with the Miami Heat. In that same period, Nick Saban’s Tide also repeated as champions, defeating LSU and Notre Dame respectively. After a couple of disappointing seasons for both James and Alabama, the pair returned to championship glory in the 2015-2016 season after legendary championship matchups. However, they both lost their title in rematches this year.
With eight straight NBA Finals and three straight college football playoffs, it is no question that both James and the Tide are in the exclusive club of dominant sports dynasties. Maybe, this upcoming season will bring them both championship glory once again.
