Judge J. Elizabeth “Beth” Kellum has officially announced her bid for re-election to the Alabama Court of Criminal Appeals, Place 2.

Kellum, who has served on the appellate court since 2008, said she remains committed to ensuring justice is carried out fairly across the state.

“I have been honored to serve the people of Alabama on the Court of Criminal Appeals, and I am eager to continue that work,” said Judge Kellum. “Ensuring that criminal appeals are handled fairly and impartially is vital to justice in our state.”

With more than four decades of experience in the legal field, Kellum previously served as an Assistant Attorney General, private attorney, and staff attorney for Alabama’s appellate courts. During her tenure on the bench, she has authored thousands of legal opinions and reviewed tens of thousands of criminal cases.

Her campaign priorities include upholding fairness and the rule of law by ensuring every case is evaluated based on the Constitution and current laws, maintaining public trust in the judiciary by promoting transparency and impartiality, and protecting the rights of all Alabamians by making legal processes fair and accessible.

“My pledge to the people of Alabama is simple,” Kellum stated. “I will continue to interpret the law with honesty, uphold the Constitution, and make decisions grounded in justice and fairness.”

A Tuscaloosa County native, Kellum earned both her undergraduate and law degrees from the University of Alabama and was elected to Phi Beta Kappa. She was selected by the Alabama Supreme Court to serve on the Appellate Rules Committee and was named a Fellow of the Alabama Law Foundation in 2020.

Kellum will appear on the Republican primary ballot in May 2026.
