Kay Ivey votes for the final time as Governor of Alabama

Kay Ivey
(Governor's Office)

No step too high for a high stepper.

Governor Kay Ivey cast her ballot Tuesday morning at the Cleveland Avenue Branch YMCA in Montgomery, the last vote she will cast as Governor of Alabama.

Ivey arrived at the Rosa L. Parks Avenue precinct around 10:30 a.m. and voted in the election that will decide her successor. Her office announced the visit in a media advisory Monday.

Ivey became Alabama’s 54th governor on April 10, 2017, after Robert Bentley resigned. She won a full term in 2018 against Tuscaloosa Mayor Walt Maddox and a second in 2022 with more than 66% of the vote.

She is the second woman to hold the office and is barred by the state constitution from seeking a third consecutive term.

U.S. Senator Tommy Tuberville (R-Auburn) and Democrat Doug Jones are on the ballot to replace her. Both cast their own ballots Tuesday morning. The winner takes office in January.

Ivey endorsed Tuberville in an op-ed for YHN last week.

Polls are open until 7 p.m. Anyone in line at 7 p.m. will be allowed to vote. Voters who need their polling place can check myinfo.alabamavotes.gov.
