U.S. Senator Katie Britt got the opportunity to speak with a fellow Alabamian at Wednesday’s Senate Foreign Relations Committee hearing in Washington. The lawmaker introduced former Trump Administration member Lynda Blanchard of Montgomery as part of the latter’s confirmation hearings for an ambassadorship position within the United Nations’ Food and Agriculture Organization. Blanchard was first nominated for the role by President Donald Trump in March.
“She’s devoted her life to elevating our state and supporting communities not just in this nation, but across the globe,” Britt (R-Montgomery) said. “She has a record of bringing sustainable change through education, health, anti-hunger initiatives, you name it … It is her goal for the unseen to be seen, to be elevated, and given an opportunity for success.”
Britt expressed full faith in Blanchard’s capabilities, calling her a ‘force of nature.’
“When I was president of the Business Council of Alabama, I had the opportunity to travel to Slovenia and see her (service as Ambassador) firsthand,” Britt continued. “We know the challenges we have in front of us across the globe, and there is no one more prepared to meet those than her. Lynda has a proven record of international experience and leadership, and she is ready to translate that longtime service in food, agriculture, and hunger issues to excel in this position.”
“I have absolute confidence in her ability to strengthen international efforts to address food security and advanced agriculture development and U.S.-led initiatives.”
President Trump praised Blanchard’s consistent efforts to better the country after nominating her for the position.
“During my first term, Lynda did a great job as U.S. Ambassador to Slovenia,” he said. “I know she will work incredibly hard for our nation.”
Blanchard currently serves as Vice President for Business Affairs of Ascent Residential, LLC, where she oversees over 25 properties across nine states. From 2019 to 2021, Blanchard served as the United States Ambassador to the Republic of Slovenia.
The United Nations’ Food and Agriculture Organization, headquartered in Rome, Italy, works internationally to fight hunger and improve local economies by modernizing and improving agriculture, forestry, and fishery practices. It also supports sustainable agriculture through legislation.
