When U.S. Sen. Katie Britt (R-Montgomery) hosts her weekly “Coffee with Katie” gathering in Washington, D.C., the goal is simple: give Alabamians visiting the nation’s capital an opportunity to meet with their senator, share what’s on their minds, and discuss issues important to them.
That mission led to a memorable exchange this week between Britt and a young girl from Huntsville named Gretta, whose question about faith prompted the senator to share her own Christian testimony.
In a social media post Wednesday, Britt said Gretta “reminded us that we are all God’s children and that, above all else, we are called to go out and share His grace with others.”

Britt has described Coffee with Katie as a weekly opportunity for Alabamians visiting Washington to meet with her, saying people from across the state and from a variety of backgrounds attend to discuss the issues they want her office to know about.
“So once a week we host all Alabamians that are in town,” Britt said in an earlier video explaining the event. “It gives me an opportunity to see everyone, to hear from everyone, and to have conversation.”
She added that attendees come “from all over the state, from all different backgrounds, with all different issues they want to make sure that we know about here in DC.”
The video Britt shared Wednesday begins with Gretta asking the senator, “Do you love Jesus?” Britt kneels to speak with the young girl at eye level before responding.
“I do. I love Jesus so much. And I am saved by his grace. I fall short of his glory every single day. But know that, because I am his child, that there is a purpose and a plan. And one day I will live with him in his perfection.
“And you know what? I try to show Jesus’s love every day. I work real hard at that, but it seems like it’s something that comes real naturally to you, right?”
After Gretta thanked her, Britt asked the young girl for a hug, and the two embraced.
Britt then asked Gretta, “Do you love Jesus?”
“I do,” Gretta replied.
“That’s what I’m talking about,” Britt said before the two exchanged a high five.
In sharing the moment online, Britt described Gretta’s childlike faith as “incredibly powerful” and said the encounter served as a reminder of the importance of sharing God’s grace with others.
