Johnny Montgomery to receive prestigious Frank “Pig” House Award for Service to Alabama Sports

Johnny Montgomery, a Tuscaloosa native and lifelong athlete, will be honored with the prestigious 2025 Frank “Pig” House Award for his outstanding contributions to sports in Alabama. The award will be presented at the 57th Annual Induction Banquet and Ceremony hosted by the Alabama Sports Hall of Fame on May 3, 2025, at the Sheraton Birmingham Hotel.

The Frank “Pig” House Award, named after the Hall of Fame’s inaugural chairman, recognizes individuals who have rendered exceptional service to Alabama sports. Montgomery’s remarkable achievements and tireless dedication have left an indelible mark on the athletic community.

Montgomery’s athletic journey began at Livingston University, where he competed in track and field. After graduating, his passion shifted to the grueling world of Ironman competitions. From 1984 to 2000, Montgomery competed in eight Ironman World Championships in Hawaii, becoming the only Alabamian to achieve this feat. Beyond Ironman events, he joined Team USA, excelling in senior duathlon competitions worldwide.

With over 200 triathlons under his belt, Montgomery has earned numerous accolades, including seven age-group first-place rankings in the Southeastern United States. For more than 30 years, he has also volunteered at nearly every major running event in Birmingham, further cementing his legacy as a cornerstone of Alabama’s athletic community.

However, Montgomery’s passion for service extends beyond sports. Following the tragic loss of his daughter Megan to domestic violence in 2019, he became a fierce advocate for victims. Through the Megan Montgomery Foundation, he raises awareness and funds to support survivors while speaking to groups about recognizing warning signs in troubled relationships.

“Johnny Montgomery exemplifies resilience, passion, and commitment,” said a representative from the Alabama Sports Hall of Fame. “His impact on sports and his advocacy work for domestic violence victims embody the spirit of the Frank ‘Pig’ House Award.”

Montgomery joins a distinguished list of past recipients, including Sammy Dunn, Avalee Willoughby, and Buddy Anderson.

Tickets for the banquet are available through the Alabama Sports Hall of Fame Museum. For more information, call (205) 323-6665.
