John Roberts op-ed: Following Senator Katie Britt’s lead making Alabama the most family-friendly state in America

Tax Day is not something most families look forward to. But this year, it gave me a reason to reflect.

My wife and I are raising two young boys. Like so many parents, our days are full of balancing work, family, and the responsibility of building a good life for our kids. As we sat down to file our taxes this year, we saw something different. For the first time in a while, we saw policy that actually felt like it was built with families like ours in mind.

That did not happen by accident.

It happened because leaders like Senator Katie Britt have made supporting families a priority.

Over the past year, Senator Britt has been one of the strongest voices in the country for policies that support families. She has helped lead efforts to expand access to child care, strengthen tax relief for working families, and push for solutions that reflect the real challenges parents face today.

And for families like mine, it made a difference.

Was it dramatic? No. But it was meaningful. It created a little more margin. A little more flexibility. And it sent a clear signal that families matter and that public policy should reflect that.

That kind of leadership matters.

Senator Britt understands something fundamental. If you want a state or a country to succeed, you start with families. Not as a talking point, but as a governing priority.

Stronger families lead to stronger communities. Stronger communities lead to a stronger workforce. And a stronger workforce is what ultimately drives economic growth and opportunity.

That is not theory. That is reality.

It also aligns directly with the vision I have for Alabama.

An Alabama where capable people and strong families are not a campaign slogan, but the actual measure of whether we are succeeding.

As I run for the Alabama State Senate, I am committed to building on the foundation Senator Katie Britt is helping lead at the federal level. We have an opportunity in Alabama to take that same focus and apply it in ways that directly impact our communities.

That means tackling the real cost of child care. It means supporting working parents. It means creating policies that make it easier to raise a family and build a good life right here in Alabama.

It means setting a clear standard. Make Alabama the most family-friendly state in America. Not in rhetoric. In reality.

Because when families are strong, everything else follows. Our schools improve. Our workforce grows stronger. Our communities become safer and more connected.

That is how we win. That is how we build a state that leads. And that is the future I am fighting for.
