Jeff Sessions: Joe Biden’s lack of enthusiasm ‘worse’ than Hillary Clinton in 2016

There has been a tangible uptick in enthusiasm for President Donald Trump in recent days that has seemingly gone unmatched by his opponent, Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden, which has some comparing the phenomenon to the scenario that played out for Trump in the closing stages of the 2016 campaign against Hillary Clinton.

Trump won the 2016 election by a 304-227 margin in the Electoral College to become president, and with him in those closing stages was then-Sen. Jeff Sessions, who would go on to become Trump’s Attorney General.

In an interview with FM Talk 106.5’s “The Jeff Poor Show,” Sessions said this campaign felt a lot like the 2016 campaign and added that Biden lacked in enthusiasm more than Hillary Clinton had in 2016.

“It does,” he said. “It absolutely does feel so much the same. I can remember traveling with Trump the last weeks several times and telling him these rallies were so impressive, that Hillary Clinton could not match that. She did not have that kind of enthusiasm. She could not draw that kind of crowd. And I’ve got to say, Biden is worse. I mean, he is hiding in his basement. I think President Trump is right. We’ve got people all over America working today, at some risk but hopefully not as much as a lot of people say.”

Sessions continued, “And the man who would be president is afraid to go out of his house? Or if he does, he does with very few people without much enthusiasm. I think momentum is definitely going his way, and the question is whether he can get there tomorrow. It’s a huge election for America. President Trump’s election is very important. If the socialists, left-wing forces take control of this government, they have the House. If they get the presidency and maybe possibly the — I don’t think so — but possibly the Senate, the values we believe in as Alabamians will be eroded. There’s no doubt about it.”

During the interview, Sessions also spoke candidly about his decision to endorse Trump in the 2016 Republican presidential primary and applauded Trump for his judicial appointments, which will profoundly impact the federal courts for the foreseeable future.
