Governor Kay Ivey has has ordered flags in Alabama lowered to half-staff to honor Mobile Police Department Officer Sean Tuder, who was shot and killed in the line of duty on Sunday.
In a directive to all state agencies, Ivey said, “Officer Tuder gave his life doing what he loved, protecting the people of Mobile. This senseless tragedy has sadly taken the life of yet another Mobile police officer, far too soon, and stands as a reminder of the sacrifices made by those who wear the badge.”
Flags should be flown at half-staff until sunset on Sunday, January 27.
This came the same day that Congressman Bradley Byrne (AL-1) released a statement on Tuder’s murder, adding that he would be taking to the floor of the U.S. House of Representatives in the officer’s honor.
“Sean Tuder is a hero who put his life on the line so that others could sleep sound at night,” Byrne said. “I know our entire Alabama community will wrap Officer Tuder’s family and the Mobile Police Department in prayer and love over the coming days.”
Byrne concluded, “I also look forward to heading to the floor of the House of Representatives to remember Officer Tuder and honor his service to our city, state, and country.”
One of our own, Spc. Sean Tuder of the 1-173 IN BN, was killed Sunday in the course of his duty as a Mobile policeman. Our deepest sympathies, support, & prayers go to his family & brothers in arms. We are thankful for his service & hope to honor his legacy. #WeHaveTheWatch pic.twitter.com/kWXF6uOCud
