A South Korean automotive parts manufacturer is bringing new jobs to Auburn with a manufacturing operation that represents an investment of more than $30 million.
INFAC North America held a grand opening celebration Oct. 13, with 120 jobs planned in its first phase, according to the city of Auburn.
The operation adds another automotive supplier to Alabama’s manufacturing industry. INFAC will make parts for global automakers, including Hyundai and Kia.
INFAC’s arrival follows other automotive supplier investments announced in Auburn this year, including new operations planned by Kamtec Auto USA and Vulcaflex. Existing manufacturers Shinhwa Auto USA, DUCK IL USA and 2A USA also announced expansions.
The company purchased an existing 160,000-square-foot building in Auburn Technology Park West and completed renovations and preparations for its planned production operation.
For INFAC Group Chairman Ohegil Choi, the Auburn location marks another step in the company’s international growth.
“Having a facility in Auburn will allow us to better serve our customers in the United States and continue expanding our production capabilities,” Choi said. “I am very grateful for the support that we have received from the State of Alabama, City of Auburn, and all our partners and employees.”
The company has also entered the core electrification components sector and continues to strengthen its manufacturing capabilities for hybrid vehicle parts.
Auburn Mayor Ron Anders welcomed the company and the opportunities it will bring to workers in the area.
“It is my pleasure to welcome INFAC North America to the Auburn community,” Anders said. “A lot of hard work and collaboration has occurred to get us to this moment, and we acknowledge the leadership of INFAC who, after evaluation of the company’s needs and of our community, determined Auburn is the right place to plant their roots. We look forward to watching them succeed and to the opportunities they will bring to our area’s workforce.”
Alabama Department of Commerce Secretary Ellen McNair said Auburn offers the support the company needs as it grows.
“INFAC has built an impressive legacy of innovation and success over more than five decades, and we are proud that Alabama is part of the company’s continued growth,” McNair said. “With a skilled workforce, a strong business climate and dedicated partners at the state and local levels, Auburn offers the resources and support INFAC needs to build on that success for years to come.”
