The Missile Defense Agency (MDA) in Huntsville has been named the contracting agency for a major international defense contract now valued at over $729 million awarded to Lockheed Martin Space in Sunnyvale, California. The organization will be responsible for overseeing the agreement, reinforcing the Rocket City’s role as a key hub for missile defense and international military partnerships.

A recent modification to the contract increased its value by $211.7 million, bringing the total overall value from $517.8 million to $729.6 million. The contract falls under a Foreign Military Sales (FMS) agreement with the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and focuses on maintaining and sustaining two Terminal High Altitude Area Defense (THAAD) Batteries.

Under the agreement, Lockheed Martin will provide logistics management, training, missile and ground repair, software development, engineering services, and missile field surveillance. The work will be carried out across multiple locations, including Huntsville, Alabama, as well as sites in California, Texas, Arkansas, and Alabama (Anniston and Troy).

The Department of Defense stated that the contract’s performance period runs from February 25, 2025, through October 31, 2027. The contract modification is funded by $211.7 million from UAE FMS funds.
