The head of one of Alabama’s largest health systems will help shape the direction of the state’s hospital association after fellow members elected Jeff Samz to chair the Alabama Hospital Association Board of Trustees.

Samz, president and CEO of Huntsville Hospital Health System, was elected during the association’s annual meeting on June 5.

The Alabama Hospital Association announced the election Thursday, saying Samz will lead the board while working with hospital leaders across the state on initiatives focused on strengthening healthcare access, quality and long-term sustainability.

“Jeff is an exceptional healthcare leader whose experience, vision, and commitment to providing quality care to communities across north Alabama is remarkable,” said Danne Howard, President and CEO of the Alabama Hospital Association. “One of the greatest strengths of our Association is that hospitals across Alabama come together to build consensus around the issues that matter most to our patients and communities and to speak with a united voice on behalf of healthcare in our state. Jeff recognizes the importance of the Association’s shared mission of strengthening healthcare for all Alabamians and AlaHA will benefit greatly from his leadership as Board Chair.”

Samz leads Huntsville Hospital Health System, one of Alabama’s largest healthcare systems, with 15 hospitals, dozens of ambulatory locations and approximately 22,000 employees serving communities across North Alabama.

He also serves in leadership roles with the Business Council of Alabama, the Huntsville/Madison County Chamber of Commerce, and the U.S. Space and Rocket Center Education Foundation.

“Alabama’s hospitals may differ in size, geography, and the communities they serve, but we share a common commitment to caring for our patients and strengthening the health of our state,” Samz said. “I am honored to serve as Chair of the Alabama Hospital Association and look forward to working alongside hospital leaders across Alabama as we continue speaking with one voice to advance healthcare, support our workforce, and ensure access to high-quality care for every community.”

Founded in 1921, the Alabama Hospital Association is a statewide trade organization that supports member hospitals through advocacy, education, representation, and service as they work to meet the healthcare needs of Alabama residents.
