FLORENCE, Ala. — The holiday season is prime time for burglars. Just like the family in the classic Christmas movie Home Alone, many people leave their house to visit family around the country, leaving their precious belongings ripe for the picking. Some often get away, but one home invader in Florence was not so lucky.

In late November, a man in Florence unloaded on a trio of robbers, killing one, when his house was broken into while his 11 and 13 year old cousins were home playing video games. The man the homeowner killed was later identified as James Devaughn Demoss, 26, of Hanceville.

The homeowner chose to remain anonymous in the initial report to protect the safety of his family. “I hope they find the perps who got away and I hope they find out who all put that together,” he said.

He and his mother were supposed to be out of town for Thanksgiving, but his flight was scheduled for later in the day. Police on the scene believe that – given the circumstances – this particular house appeared to be specifically targeted.

“I kept shooting until I couldn’t shoot no more,” he told WAFF. “There is no need for nobody to try and shoot through someone’s door and come kill that person and take what’s in their home,” he said.

The Hoover Tactical Shot of the Month highlights everyday Americans utilizing their Second Amendment rights to protect themselves and the ones they love.
