HBCU CARES, a leading coalition committed to advancing the impact and innovation of Historically Black Colleges, Community Colleges, and Universities across Alabama, proudly announces the appointment of Dr. Brittany A. Holloman as its new Executive Director.
Dr. Holloman brings over a decade of leadership in higher education. She most recently served as Chief of Staff at Allen University in Columbia, South Carolina, where she acted as senior advisor to the president, led key presidential initiatives, coordinated campus and community-wide strategic projects, and served as the university’s UNCF Transformation Officer. Her career also includes senior roles at Alabama A&M University and Talladega College, where she focused on student and community engagement, student success, and compliance.

A three-time HBCU graduate, Dr. Holloman holds a Ph.D. in Urban Higher Education from Jackson State University, a Master’s in Urban and Regional Planning from Alabama A&M University, and a Bachelor’s in Biology from Stillman College. Her deep ties to HBCUs give her a unique perspective on both the opportunities and challenges facing these vital institutions.
“I am happy to serve and honored to lead an organization doing such transformative work for our institutions and the communities they serve,” said Dr. Holloman. “HBCU CARES represents a bold and strategic vision for what’s possible when we invest in HBCUs as engines of innovation, equity, and opportunity. I look forward to working alongside our member institutions and partners to expand our reach and amplify our impact.”
As Executive Director, Dr. Holloman will oversee HBCU CARES’ growing portfolio of initiatives, including the Alabama State Agency Pipeline, multi-campus health education partnerships, and workforce training programs. Her leadership will guide the organization’s six strategic pillars: collaborative research, workforce development, economic empowerment, policy advocacy, institutional sustainability, and accountability.
“Dr. Holloman understands the power and potential of our HBCUs because she’s lived it,” said Perry Jones, Board Chair of HBCU CARES. “Her leadership, vision, and passion are exactly what we need to propel the organization into its next chapter.”
