Governor Ivey sets special election dates for House District 76

Gov. Kay Ivey (R-AL) on Monday called for a special election for House District 76. The seat is now vacant due to the passing of State Rep. Thad McClammy (D-Montgomery), who held the office for more than two decades.

The special primary election will be held on Tuesday, November 16, 2021.

Candidates will have until Tuesday, September 14, to qualify with a major political party and declare their candidacy. For candidates qualifying as an independent with minor political parties seeking ballot access, appropriate documentation must be filed with the Secretary of State’s office no later than Tuesday, November 16, 2021.

If necessary, a special primary runoff election will take place on Tuesday, December 14, 2021.

The special general election will be held on Tuesday, March 1, 2022.

The deadline to register to vote for the special primary election is Tuesday, November 2, 2021. Eligible Alabamians may register to vote at AlabamaVotes.gov, the Montgomery Election Center’s website, on the mobile app “Montgomery Probate Court” or by visiting the Montgomery County Board of Registrars.
