Governor Kay Ivey is lauding the Metro Area Crime Suppression (MACS) Unit successful efforts to fight against crime in Montgomery.
The MACS Unit is a law enforcement initiative launched by state leaders including Ivey and Attorney General Steve Marshall on June 24, 2024. Its mission is to reduce crime and enhance public safety across Montgomery and the surrounding areas.
“Our Metro Area Crime Suppression Unit is a necessary public safety tool in our Capital City,” Ivey said. “823 arrests. And we’re not slowing down. Thugs of Montgomery, y’all are on notice. Our agents will look for you. They will find you. And they will arrest you.”

Ivey posted the statement in response to Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA) bragging about its new Mustang patrol car on social media.
While the MACS Unit has helped lower crime in Alabama’s capital city, some state leaders still believe more needs to be done. U.S. Sen. Tommy Tuberville (R-Auburn), the Republican nominee for Alabama Governor, has suggested that he would deploy the National Guard in Montgomery if crime continues to be a problem.
Earlier this week, Katherine Robertson, chief counsel to Attorney General Steve Marshall and the GOP nominee to succeed him, was calling out Montgomery Mayor Steven Reed over what she considers his poor record of running Alabama’s capital city.
