BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — Conservative talk show host Glenn Beck has released details of his upcoming visit to Birmingham, the launching event of his “Never Again is Now” campaign taking place on the 52nd anniversary of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s “I have a dream” speech.
Activities will begin at 9AM the morning of August 28th with a walk among Birmingham’s many Civil Rights landmarks, including the 16th Street Baptist Church, the Civil Rights Institute, Kelly Ingram Park, and the Birmingham jail where Dr. King penned his famous letter defending the movement’s commitment to nonviolent resistance.
“You are really going to walk away from [Birmingham] with new friends and a new attitude and a new mission in life,” Beck said on his radio program. “Things have grown so out of control that we had to change some venues. But we’re still going to be doing the event at the Guiding Light Church on Friday night.”
At 7PM that evening, Beck will be the guest speaker at Guiding Light Church, a local church pastored by Bishop Jim Lowe, a survivor of the 1963 16th Street Baptist Church bombing.
Tickets will be first come, first served at $10 each, but there will also be audio visual set up outside the building, so even more people can attend.
Billed as an #AllLivesMatter rally by the church, Beck plans to use his appearance to raise funds for charities that help victims of terrorism and persecution in the Middle East by shipping boxes of much needed aid to the war-torn area through vetted partner organizations on the ground.
The next morning at 8AM, Beck, church members in the community, and anyone else in attendance will meet at Kelly Ingram Park to march in MLK’s steps through downtown Birmingham.
“I ask to you bring a bus down with your church,” Beck implored. “Come down with your family and join us as we begin to stand and teach ourselves how to stand for human rights, for the right of life,” Beck continued. “All life matters.”
