ForestPAC poll: Durant 33.8%, Britt 32.0%, Brooks 17.6%

A poll commissioned by ForestPAC, the political arm of the Alabama Forestry Association (AFA), shows that U.S. Army veteran Mike Durant has taken a slim lead over the GOP primary field in Alabama’s 2022 U.S. Senate race.

The poll was conducted by McLaughlin & Associates March 10-13 with 500 likely Republican primary voters. Respondents were evenly interviewed between landline, cellphone and text message.

Poll results are as follows:

  • Mike Durant — 33.8%
  • Katie Britt — 32.0%
  • Mo Brooks — 17.6%
  • Undecided — 16.6%

In addition to Durant holding a slim lead over his GOP primary rivals, he is also the second candidate of choice among Republican voters. This data point could prove to be of great benefit for Durant in the event that he makes the probable runoff election. Among respondents who preferred another candidate as their first choice, Durant receives 25.6% of support, followed by Britt at 19.8% and Brooks at 14.0%.

According to the poll, 52.2% of respondents view Durant as favorable, compared to Britt’s 48.8% and Brooks’ 37.0%. Brooks holds the highest unfavorable response rate at 44.8%, followed by 21.2% for Britt and 13.6% for Durant.

The poll posed the question to respondents asking which candidate they believed held the endorsement of former President Donald Trump, who has endorsed Brooks’ candidacy. Only 49.4% of participants knew Trump had endorsed Brooks.
