Finebaum says Kiffin would accept Florida job if offered

It has been a rough few years for fans of the Florida Gators.

After parting with Dan Mullen following the 2021 season, Billy Napier has not had a winning season for the Gators in his first two years and appears to be on the way to yet another losing year after getting beaten like a drum at home against Miami in week one.

Napier and the Gators are facing the toughest schedule in the country along with little to nothing to be excited about on the recruiting trail. Not winning football games and not recruiting is generally not a recipe for success in the SEC.

Naturally, with Napier on the hottest seat possible, the focus has shifted to who will be the next head coach at Florida who despite some down years is still among the premiere programs in the nation.

According to SEC analyst Paul Finebaum, it just might be Ole Miss head coach Lane Kiffin.

During a Thursday morning appearance on 105.5 WNSP FM in Mobile, Finebaum openly stated that if Kiffin were to be offered the job in Gainesville, he believes he would take it.

“Absolutely,” Finebaum stated when asked if he could see Kiffin leaving Ole Miss for Florida. “I think Lane Kiffin would be the No. 1 target and frankly, I believe that Lane Kiffin would accept it.”

Finebaum did, however point out the fact that if Ole Miss were in the College Football Playoff like many expect them to be, it’s a long wait for Florida between firing Napier around Thanksgiving and the playoff ending in January, especially during the height of recruiting season.

While the scheduling snag could complicate things, the fit between Kiffin and Florida seems a natural one and Kiffin has even said that his coaching hero was Gators legendary head coach Steve Spurrier.

Keep a very close eye on Florida as the season rolls along.
