New York, NY — The Broadway musical Hamilton has taken the world by storm, and now Alabama Crimson Tide football coach Nick Saban is even showing it some love. This weekend the five-time national champ and his wife sent a signed football to Michael Luwoye, the Alabama native who is the new alternate for the title role.

In a post on his Instagram profile, Luwoye thanked the Sabans for their show of support. “Thank you, to Coach Saban & Miss Terry, for this token of support for my role in Hamilton! This is an incredible gift & I am very grateful for you. #rolltide,” he wrote in the caption.

Luwoye is a graduate of the University of Alabama and received his theater degree in 2013. He also graduated from Lee High School in Huntsville and went through its arts magnet program.

Hamilton is a musical about the life of American Founding Father Alexander Hamilton, with music and lyrics by Lin-Manuel Miranda. The show, inspired by the 2004 biography Alexander Hamilton by historian Ron Chernow, has achieved both critical acclaim and box office success.

With Miranda now absent from the show’s performances, Javier Muñoz dons the petticoat in Broadway performances. Luwoye, Alabama’s up-and-coming star, is just behind him though and could one day become a full-time lead himself.
