After Target’s announcement that its stores will now allow shoppers to use whatever restroom corresponds with their “gender-identity,” many Alabamians have expressed outrage and a desire to take their business elsewhere.

But people who have paid attention to Target’s political advocacy over the years were not surprised by their decision.
The website 2nd Vote, which rates companies on a five-point conservative-to-liberal spectrum (with one being more liberal and five being more conservative), rates the superstore chain a 1.6.
Targets 2nd Vote scores on key issues are as follows:
Environment: 1
Target signed a pledge to support liberal environmental policies concluding from the 2015 Climate Conference in Paris. Target also partners with The Nature Conservancy, a liberal environmental group that supports carbon tax and cap-and-trade policies.
2nd Amendment: 2
“We respectfully request that guests not bring firearms to Target – even in communities where it is permitted by law,” Target said in a controversial press release last year.
Marriage: 1
Target signed on to an amicus brief in favor of the Supreme Court overturning state bans on same-sex marriage in 2015.
Pro-Life: 1
Target funds the Chicago Foundation for Women, an organization that strongly supports and lobbies for abortion protection and advancement. Target also partners with United Way and YWCA, which fund Planned Parenthood.
In short, the transgender issue is far from the first time Target has publicly taken a liberal position.
But fortunately for conservative Alabamians who plan to no longer shop at Target’s 22 locations, there are many other options available.
