Alabama woman victim of creepiest crime of 2016, escapes unharmed

TRUSSVILLE, Ala. — Less than three months into the new year, an Alabama robbery victim just experienced what will almost certainly go down as the creepiest crime of the 2016, but ultimately escaped unharmed.

Police were initially called to the Trussville Target on Gadsden Highway after reports of numerous car break-ins. While watching the security footage of the parking lot, they witnessed something far more disturbing.

The footage showed a woman in her 40s load her car with groceries, then return her cart to the proper location. But while she left the car unattended, a man slid into her backseat and hid until she returned.

Police received a call from the woman hours later and were told that the robber held her at gunpoint and forced her to withdraw money from numerous ATMs around Birmingham. After stealing the money and other valuables, he eventually got out of her car and ran away. She then called police.

The man has only been described as a “black male.” The case remains under investigation and the backseat bandit is still at-large.
