One way to take in the scenic landscape of Alabama and several neighboring states—while also scoring some bargains—is by joining the World’s Longest Yard Sale, returning August 7–10. Also known as the 127 Yard Sale, this massive, multi-state shopping event stretches 690 miles from Gadsden, Alabama, to Addison, Michigan.
The route in Alabama begins in Gadsden and winds along the picturesque Lookout Mountain Parkway through Fort Payne before crossing into Chattanooga, Tennessee. From there, shoppers can continue along Highway 127 through Georgia, Tennessee, Kentucky, Ohio, and into Michigan. The event was created to draw travelers off the interstate and into the charming small towns and communities nestled along more rural paths.

Throughout the four-day event, hundreds of vendors will line roadsides offering a wide variety of goods. Shoppers can browse antiques, collectibles, furniture, dishware, fresh produce, homemade jams and jellies, and much more. Food vendors and live entertainment are also common along the route, adding to the festive atmosphere.
The 93-mile stretch through Alabama’s Lookout Mountain Parkway has been highlighted by publications such as Reader’s Digest, National Geographic, and Southern Living as a must-see destination. Visitors will encounter breathtaking views, including waterfalls, canyons, broad vistas, and a mix of small towns and natural areas, including state and national parks.
Vendors typically open by 8 a.m. and remain active into the evening. While some may accept credit cards, cash is the preferred method of payment. Shoppers are encouraged to wear comfortable shoes, pack insect repellent and sunscreen, and bring snacks and plenty of water for the journey.
