Eliza Maxwell’s career is a testament to vision, compassion, and determination.
As the founder of homeRN, she has reshaped what it means for families to receive care at home–combining expert medical support with the comfort, dignity, and security of familiar surroundings.
Her work goes beyond traditional nursing, creating a model where every patient and family feels seen, supported, and guided through complex healthcare decisions.
A nurse, entrepreneur, wife, and mother, Maxwell has built a legacy defined by service to others. What began as one woman’s conviction that patients and families deserved better options for recovery has grown into a thriving network of concierge nursing services across the Southeast, setting a new standard in home healthcare.
Through homeRN, she has not only improved patient outcomes but also empowered nurses and caregivers to take leadership roles in patient care, demonstrating that high-quality healthcare can be personal, coordinated, and compassionate.
Defining accomplishments in healthcare innovation
Maxwell’s journey in nursing began at St. Vincent’s Birmingham, where she worked on the orthopedic floor and in the cardiovascular intensive care unit.
She later served as an Advanced Practice Nurse with Alabama Cardiovascular Group and transitioned into home health with Alegis Care.
It was there that she noticed a critical gap in care: patients often returned home after hospitalizations or procedures without the coordinated nursing support they truly needed.
Families, meanwhile, struggled under the emotional and physical toll of caregiving.
“My career journey has always been rooted in a commitment to care, adaptability, and making a meaningful impact,” she explains.
“For six years, I worked as a nurse practitioner in home care, gaining firsthand experience with the unique challenges patients and families face after leaving the hospital.”
A turning point came in 2020 when Maxwell visited the ailing father of a close friend. What she found was a fragmented web of services with no one coordinating the entire team.
“That moment shifted the course of my career,” she recalls. “I realized families needed more than fragmented support–they needed a single point of leadership. That realization became the foundation of homeRN.”
Out of that experience came homeRN, founded in Birmingham with a mission to deliver expert concierge nursing and caregiving directly into people’s homes.
Under Maxwell’s leadership, homeRN quickly grew from a local service into a regional enterprise. Today, she owns franchise locations in Auburn and Montgomery and oversees seven additional independently owned franchises in Alabama, Nashville, and South Carolina.
“The accomplishment I’m most proud of is recognizing a gap in home care and having the courage to do something about it,” Maxwell says.
“What makes me proud is not only building a business from the ground up, but also franchising it–giving other nurses and entrepreneurs the opportunity to bring this much-needed model of care into their own communities.”
Her impact is not only measured in business growth, but in the thousands of families who have found relief, support, and peace of mind thanks to her vision.
“Today, as the founder of homeRN, I bring together everything I’ve learned throughout my journey to create a model of care that is not only professional and reliable, but also deeply personal–the kind of care I would want for my own family,” Maxwell shares.
Women who inspired her path
Maxwell’s journey has been shaped by women who embodied strength and service, women whose examples showed her that true impact comes from resilience, compassion, and a willingness to lead.
“The women who inspire me most are those who balance both their careers and their families,” she reflects.
“It’s not easy to pursue professional goals while also showing up fully at home, yet so many women do it every single day. Their resilience, determination, and ability to wear so many hats–often without recognition–reminds me that strength doesn’t always look like perfection. It looks like showing up, making sacrifices, and continuing to move forward even when it’s hard.”
She also draws daily inspiration from her two daughters, Beatty and Frances.
“As a woman building a business while raising a family, I know firsthand how challenging that balance can be,” she says. “Seeing other women lead, nurture, and thrive in both spaces inspires me to keep going and to create opportunities for others to do the same.”
Creating purpose through care
For Maxwell, nursing has always been about more than medicine–it is about people.
“What brings purpose to my work is knowing that I’m helping families feel supported, cared for, and less overwhelmed during some of life’s most vulnerable moments,” she explains.
“Healthcare can feel fragmented, and I find meaning in creating a model where patients and families know there’s a nurse leading the way, bringing everyone together, and making sure nothing falls through the cracks. That sense of purpose is also deeply rooted in her home state. “Alabama is home. It’s where I live, raise my family, and build my business,” she says.
“Bringing innovation in healthcare to my own state, creating jobs here, and expanding access to compassionate, coordinated care gives me a sense of pride and responsibility. It’s about serving the place and the people that have shaped who I am, while building something that can also grow far beyond Alabama.”
A Woman of Impact
As homeRN’s founder and CEO, Maxwell has proven that leadership in healthcare requires both innovation and heart. Colleagues describe her as resourceful, determined, and deeply committed to excellence.
But above all, Maxwell’s leadership is rooted in humility: a willingness to listen, to adapt, and to put families first.
“Every nurse, caregiver, and team member contributes to a model where patients feel supported, loved, and safe at home,” she says. “That collective impact–that our organization can truly make a difference in people’s lives–is what drives us every day.”
Her story illustrates the powerful impact of combining medical expertise with compassion and innovation.
By transforming the way healthcare is delivered at home, Eliza Maxwell is not only changing lives one family at a time; she is reshaping the future of healthcare across the Southeast.
And that is why she is truly a Woman of Impact.
