One man was killed, and multiple people were injured in a late-night shooting in downtown Mobile, according to FOX10 News.

Mobile Police Chief William Jackson said the shooting occurred just after 11 p.m. Sunday near the intersection of Dauphin Street and Joachim Street.

Officers responding to the scene found multiple gunshot victims. Authorities confirmed one person died, and at least one victim was in critical condition at the time of the initial police briefing.

Investigators established two related crime scenes — one at Dauphin and Joachim and another at a parking lot about a block away. Police said the total number of victims remains unclear because some injured individuals went to hospitals on their own.

Jackson said authorities have not yet released the names of any victims and do not yet know what led to the shooting. Police also have not determined how many shots were fired or whether more than one shooter was involved.

One individual has been detained as a person of interest but has not been named a suspect. Detectives were conducting interviews and processing evidence at both scenes as the investigation continued.

The shooting happened hours after Mardi Gras events had drawn large crowds to downtown. Jackson said the incident was not connected to Mardi Gras activities, though he described it as possible crowd spillover. He also noted that dozens of officers were assigned to the downtown area at the time, including foot and mounted patrol units.

Police said the investigation is ongoing and will release additional details as they are confirmed.
