U.S. Senator Doug Jones (D-AL) this week is already going up on television with his first campaign ad ahead of November’s general election.
Even though Jones does not yet know whether he will face former Auburn University head football coach Tommy Tuberville or former U.S. Attorney General Jeff Sessions, Alabama’s junior senator is hitting the airwaves starting Tuesday.
Politico Playbook reported that Jones’ ad buy will run statewide.
In the 30-second ad entitled, “Together,” Jones speaks directly into the camera.
“As he lay dying, George Floyd cried for his mama and pleaded for his life: ‘I can’t breathe.’ As we witnessed his death together, the world changed,” Jones says to begin the spot.
“Across Alabama, folks are struggling with this — seeing injustice and inequality and wanting to see that end,” he continues. “We cannot let this moment pass. The road to racial justice has taken far too long — but it’s a journey we must make, and we must make it together. Come join me.”
Watch:
Sessions and Tuberville will face-off on July 14 in Alabama’s U.S. Senate Republican primary runoff.
