Doug Jones: ‘Nobody wants’ America to become socialist

Senator Doug Jones (D-AL) believes that “nobody wants” America to become socialist, despite the stark warning in President Donald Trump’s State of the Union Address last week.

“Here in the United States, we are alarmed by the new calls to adopt socialism in our country,” Trump said. “Tonight, we renew our resolve that America will never be a socialist country.”

According to The Hill, Jones did stand up to applaud at one point during the president’s remarks on rejecting socialism. In an interview with the publication, the junior senator from Alabama explained his thoughts on what Trump said.

“I think it’s true. It’s a true statement, it’s not going to happen. It’s that simple, nobody wants it to happen,” Jones advised on Trump’s vow that America will never become socialist.

The senator also dismissed Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s (D-NY) proposal to marginally tax the nation’s highest income earners at 70 percent.

“There’s a lot of talk about things like that. I think we need to look at practical issues when it comes to tax and things like that and I’m not sure how practical that is,” Jones opined.
