DeBoer ranked No. 3 on list of top coaches in the country

Kalen DeBoer is already under an immense amount of pressure. The first new Alabama coach in 17 years, he is tasked with succeeding the greatest to ever do it.

According to a new list from On3, he just might be up to the task.

DeBoer came in at third on On3’s recent ranking of the top 25 coaches in college football.

All three of the top names came from the SEC, unsurprisingly led by Kirby Smart. LSU’s Brian Kelly, himself under heavy pressure this fall after his program took a step back last season, was named the country’s second-best coach.

DeBoer lands at No. 3 following his second year at Washington, when he took the Huskies all the way to the national championship game while overseeing one of the most productive offenses in college football.

The real estate that the SEC has on the list is staggering, boasting four of the top five coaches, five of the top ten, six of the top 20, and seven of the top 25.

Coming in after DeBoer were Texas’ Steve Sarkisian (No. 5), Ole Miss’ Lane Kiffin (No. 10), Tennessee’s Josh Heupel (No. 17), and Missouri’s Eli Drinkwitz (No. 25).

It goes without saying that the SEC has best players in the country, but according to Simonton, it has the best coaches as well.
