Conservative legal group launches ConfirmSessions.com

A conservative judicial advocacy group is running campaign geared at ensuring that Alabama Senator Jeff Sessions is confirmed as the next U.S. Attorney General.

The Judicial Crisis Network, an organization dedicated to promoting constitutionalism and limited government, announced the launch of ConfirmSessions.com. The website touts Sessions as a qualified, bipartisan leader who will reform the Department of Justice. In addition to releasing the site, they are said to be planning a 6-figure digital ad buy, which will target the D.C. area during the dates that Sessions will face a Senate Committee.

A video ad, which will be pushed as part of the ad buy, features clips of President-elect Trump and Senate leaders Mitch McConnell and Ted Cruz praising the Alabama Senator’s character.
Carrie Severino, Judicial Crisis Network chief counsel, said in a statement that they aimed to provide a resource for those looking to learn more about Senator Sessions’ record.

“From his time as U.S. Attorney to his tenure as Attorney General for the state of Alabama, Jeff Sessions successfully prosecuted drug and violent criminals, corrupt politicians, and white collar offenders, and his record shows an absolute commitment to equal justice under law by putting the people first – not powerful special interests,” said Severino.

Democrats on Capitol Hill have promised to fight Sessions’ nomination, though many political observers believe that he is a lock for the position. Additionally, some top Democrat leaders in Alabama and Washington have come forward to defend Sessions.

State Senator Quinton Ross, Jr. (D- Montgomery), is one leader who has vouched for Sessions’ character. He says that he has worked with Sessions for over twenty years, and their relationship has been a positive one. On Wednesday, he issued a press release saying that he believes the Alabama Senator will be unbiased in his application of the law.

“I have worked with Sen. Sessions on education policy and securing federal funding for our schools,” Ross said. “Additionally, I have spent time with him at the Magic City Classic and at Heritage Barbershop in Montgomery. I know him personally and all of my encounters with him have been for the greater good of Alabama.”

Likewise, Vice President Joe Biden has indicated that he is fine with Sessions’ nomination.

“My general rule is, the president gets to chose who he wants or she wants for their cabinet members, unless they’re taking over the job with the expressed purpose of not enforcing the law in that area,” Biden said.

Hearings for Sessions’ Senate confirmation are expected to take place on January 10 and 11.
