One candidate vying to square off with U.S. Senator Tommy Tuberville (R-Auburn) in the 2026 governor’s race as a Democrat revealed he’s using an unconventional campaign marketing gimmick.
Jamel Jermain Brown, who describes himself on social media as a pastor, activist, and candidate for governor, posted on Tuesday that he has ordered 1,000 “brand new condoms large and extra large” that he will offer for “free on behalf of Jamel Brown for Alabama Governor 2026.”

Brown, who launched his campaign in Montgomery in June, previously ran for Montgomery City Council in 2023. He finished with roughly 16% of the vote against Andrew Szymanski, who avoided a runoff with 55.5%.
He filed his principal campaign committee in June as well, but has yet to file a monthly fundraising report. Candidates who do not raise or spend more than $1,000 are not required to file a report.
Brown is running against Chad “Chig” Martin and Will Boyd in the 2026 Alabama Democratic Party primary.
