CFD Research expands Jackson County facility

HOLLYWOOD – It began in August 2021 with Huntsville’s CFD Research opening a 13,125 square-foot test and evaluation facility on about 10 acres of land in Jackson County Industrial Park.

After just one year, CFD Research doubled the number of employees at the facility and witnessed a surge in testing requirements for its customers.

The response was swift.

Last week, CFD Research broke ground for a 63-acre expansion and a test stand four times larger than the company’s current capability. The new stand will expand the company’s manufacturing, system integration, and test and evaluation services.

“Thank you to the town of Hollywood for welcoming us so graciously and celebrating this groundbreaking event, along with Teledyne Brown Engineering and so many others,” said Sameer Singhal, president and CEO of CFD Research. “The location and proximity to our other facilities have been an ideal solution and will enable us to work efficiently and economically.

“This new facility will enable our team to perform work that will enhance SMD’s abilities and mission.”

Civic and business leaders along with elected officials attended the groundbreaking. They included Madison County Commission Chairman and now-U.S. Rep.-elect Dale Strong, who headlined the ceremony; State Sen. Steve Livingston; Nathan Lee, president of the Jackson County Economic Development Authority; and Scottsboro Mayor Jim McCamy.

CFD Research is teamed with Teledyne Brown Engineering on an ongoing contract with the Army Space and Missile Defense Command. The company said the new facility will be dedicated to support work for that contract and enhance the team’s ability to provide services, support technology development, and an increase in testing capacity.
