Cavanaugh seeks re-election as PSC president

Citing a desire to continue her fight against the Biden administration’s energy policies, Twinkle Cavanaugh announced today she is seeking another term as president of the Alabama Public Service Commission.

Cavanaugh was elected to her current term in 2020, a race in which she received more votes than any other non-presidential candidate in Alabama history.

“Sound energy policy is the foundation for all that we want to achieve as a state,” Cavanaugh said in a news release. “Our entire economy depends on access to reliable and affordable energy, and Alabama families depend on it for their quality of life.”

Cavanaugh affirmed her stance in opposing outlawing the use of fossil fuels.

“I’m running again because I refuse to stand by and let Joe Biden and the liberals in Washington ruin our country with their unrealistic and unworkable ideas on energy and the environment,” she said. “Biden’s effort to deny Americans the use of oil, coal and natural gas has made energy far more expensive. That’s why I will continue fighting him and his liberal environmental supporters every step of the way until we get full use of the resources God provided for our benefit.

“Despite Joe Biden’s best efforts to oppose us, our commitment to utilizing coal and natural gas for energy production kept the heat on for millions of Alabamians during some of the coldest weather on record.”

A persistent critic of President Joe Biden, last fall Cavanaugh asserted that Biden “has thrown us into an energy crisis” and called Biden’s handling of the economy “either incompetent or criminal, or maybe both.”

Cavanaugh touted her accomplishments in the release, saying she established a model ethics policy, cut government waste to save taxpayers millions of dollars annually and assured the return of hundreds of millions of dollars to Alabama consumers.

The Republican primary election is March 5, 2024.
