Former President Donald Trump announced Tuesday he is running for president in 2024. He made the announcement at his Mar-a-Lago home just days after the midterm election.
Wednesday, Rep. Jerry Carl (R-Mobile) reacted to Trump’s speech during an appearance on NBC News 15 in Mobile.
“I think he did a great job delivering last night, I really do,” Carl said. “He was point on, on what he has been so successful at, which is policy, and we can all appreciate that.”
The congressman admitted that it might be too soon to really think about who’s going to win the 2024 election.
“I think it may be a little early for all of us to get ultra-excited,” he said, “(Be)cause we got a wonderful group of people, it looks like, are going to be running for the presidency. So let’s wait and see how this plays out.”
He also said a likely winner of the future presidential race will be the person “who delivers the best message to our voter base.”
Carl commented on Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s future as well now that Republicans are going to be in the majority.
“What she chooses to do when we take the gavel back from her is anybody’s guess,” he said. “Again, we’ll just have to wait and see how that plays out. ‘Cause she’ll do what she wants to do. She’ll leave on her terms or she’ll stay on her own terms.”
