Brooks warns of $600m in Obamacare taxes for Alabama, slams “Nixonian, Watergate-ish’ Obama

Rep. Mo Brooks, R-Huntsville, made an appearance on Laura Ingraham’s nationally syndicated radio show on Friday to warn about the consequences of ObamaCare.

According to Brooks, there are a plethora of hidden costs to the American public which will come in the form of new taxes, $600 million of which will hit Blue Cross Blue Shield of Alabama and be passed along to its customers.

“To some degree, the president and the Democrats are playing a shell game,” Brooks said. “They’re not comparing apples to apples. They’re comparing apples to oranges. It’s not just the price that’s important. It’s also the quality of the product that you’re purchasing and I think the consensus is that the quality of insurance that we’ll be getting, particularly when you take into account the deductibles, is nowhere near the quality of the health insurance we’ve been able to purchase in the past for the same dollar.”

“And then you also have to bear in mind the traditional Democratic strategy,” he continued. “They try to make you think you’re getting something for free. They don’t tell you about all the hidden taxes. And I’ll use as an example Blue Cross Blue Shield of Alabama. I met with them a couple of months ago and they informed me that Obamacare is going to cost them over the next three years $600 million in additional taxes, OK? What does that mean? It means everybody in the state of Alabama who uses Blue Cross Blue Shield of their health insurer is going to see higher premiums because those higher taxes are going to be passed along. There are 21 of these Obamacare tax increases and the general public is not going to necessarily know why prices for different things have gone up. But they may see the subsidy impact of those higher taxes on their health care and think they’re getting a better deal, when in fact they’re having to pay for a whole other federal government bureaucracy and we’re having a less efficient system and we’re going to do worse — worse health care and worse cost.”

Brooks went on to criticize President Barack Obama for neglecting to point out his plan’s shortfalls, calling him “Nixonian” and “Watergate-ish” and then blasting the news media for being willing accomplices in his charade.

“One of the frustrations that I’m having to work with… is the demagoguery of this president,” Brooks said, “the false representations of this president and then how the mainstream news media just parrots it without doing any substantive research, without having to determine if the president is telling the American people the truth… The president is being on of the most dishonest presidents I have ever seen on any public policy issue. Quite frankly, he is Nixonian, Watergate-ish in the way he is expressing what the hopes are for this socialized medicine plan of his, versus what the realities are… There is no way any individual who is unbiased can conclude this is better for America.”
